WINDOWS
Windows are not only an expressive architectural detail, but also a very important element of all buildings. Their technical characteristics play a crucial role in thermal insulation of the entire building. Impermeable windows keep the cold, rain and wind outside, preserving the warmth inside. Their shapes and colors create a unique façade and interior style. Windows provide homes with light and views of the surrounding environment.
Pietų Megrame PVC windows are warm, impermeable, and durable. You don’t need to paint them and they are easy to maintain. We offer a wide range of constructions, shapes, colors and opening systems. They will enable to create your unique and cosy home.
The main parts of any window are: the window frame and sash, glazing unit and fittings. Thermal insulation, strength and safety depend on their characteristics.
WINDOW FRAME AND SASH
Window frames are more conductive to heat and sound, compared to other structures of the building, with the majority of sound coming in and heat lost through their sash and glass gaskets, and installation and connection seams. Impermeableness and heat insulation defines the key characteristics of PVC windows, which, in turn, are determined by a range of structural solutions for window frame profiles. Window characteristics depend on:
- – frame profile width and geometry;
- – number of inner chambers and their configuration;
- – proper use of steel reinforcement;
- – number of gaskets and their characteristics;
- – possibility of using glazing units of certain thickness;
- – how deep the glazing units are inserted into the profile;
- – proper and quality materials used for the installation.
Pietų Megrame produces window frames from S 8000 and S 9000 profiles, manufactured by GEALAN, a well-known and reliable PVC profile producer.
Window Frames from GAELAN S 8000 System Profiles
GEALAN S 8000 was introduced to the Baltic States back in 2004, radically changing the market standard prevailing until then. In more than 15 years, it has become perhaps the most popular in the Baltic region and is still widely used today. This 74 mm wide and 6-chamber purposely-built window profile system solution enables using warm glazing units of up to 46 mm thickness with the heat transfer coefficient Uf reaching as high as 1.2 W/(m²K). All this enables to obtain a heat transfer coefficient Uw of less than 1.0 W/(m²K) for the entire window, which already meets the requirements for A+ class buildings.
The size of the main window sash and frame chamber enables the use of wide-profile steel reinforcement, which makes the window structure particularly stable, making it possible to produce very large window structures. The variety of glazing bar shapes, and a wide selection of laminate films will enable to create a unique look.
Window Frames from GAELAN S 9000 Triple Sealing System Profiles
Pietų Megrame produces PVC window frames and sashes from GEALAN S 9000 system profiles. GEALAN S 9000 profile system combines the advantages of middle and outer sealing systems. 82.5 mm installation depth, 6 inner chambers in the window frame and sash profiles, and 3 insulation gaskets ensure excellent heat and sound insulation.
The additional middle gasket along the entire frame perimeter not only significantly improves heat and sound insulation, but also increases the window’s safety and service life, as it also protects the opening and locking units from external impact. S 9000 windows can be fitted with triple glazing units of up to 52 mm thickness. S 9000 GEALAN STV® profiles, adapted for dry glazing along the entire perimeter of the frame, can be used with glazing units of up to 54 mm thickness.
Window frame heat insulation indices can be further improved by using profiles, filled with heat insulation foam.
Windows, made of GEALAN S 9000 system profiles comply with high heat insulation requirements and can be installed in passive homes.
Modern, particularly warm and durable, Pietų Megrame S 9000 windows will serve you for many years.
GLAZING UNITS
Glass takes up the largest area of any window structure, thus playing a crucial role in important technical parameters of the entire window: heat and sound insulation, protection from wind and rain. It is also the part of the window, which provides your home with sunlight. Therefore, picking a suitable glazing unit is very important in each case.
Glazing units differ in the number of glass sheets and the type of glass used. Glass panes in 2-4 pane units are separated by aluminium or plastic spacer bars, while the space between the glass panes can be filled with noble gas thus improving thermal insulation indices of the window up to several times.
The characteristics of the glazing unit also depend on the gaps between the glass panes, and the type of glass used. Double pane glazing unit with selective glass (coated in a very thin layer of metal or metal oxides) is great for apartment building windows, as premises in apartment buildings are consistently heated. Private homes make a better use of triple pane glazing units. If your private house or apartment building is located on a busy city street, we recommend glazing units with sound insulation. The sound insulation qualities depend on the thickness of the glass, the gap between the glass panes, and the type of glass used. The thickness of glass panes in a sound-insulating glazing unit should be 16-20 mm with a 16-20 mm distance between the panes. Also, at least one of the panes should be coated with a sound-insulating film.
Pietų Megrame uses the following glazing units:
- – standard;
- – thermal-insulating;
- – with sun control coating;
- – increased safety;
- – decorative and structural glazing units.
Consult with Pietų Megrame experts to pick the best option for your home.
COLORED WINDOWS
Examples of windows used as the means of aesthetic expression can be found in nearly all buildings. They give character and complement or become the distinctive details of the building’s architectural style. Architectural style is complemented not only by the shape, division, and décor of the doors and windows, but also their color.
Colored door and window frames make the building unique. The color can visually increase or decrease the window in the general context of the façade. For example, dark colors make the windows look bigger, as it is closest to the color of the glass during the day time. White or light grey frames highlight the window making it look smaller due to the contrast between the frame and the glass. Dark window frames are currently very popular and they certainly look luxurious, but customers fear the color may eventually fade. Profiles, used for door and window frames, manufactured by Pietų Megrame, can be not only white, but also colorful, coated with GEALAN-acrylcolor® acrylic, and laminated with decorative films, featuring all kinds of multi-colored patterns.
Colored GEALAN-acrylcolor® door and window frames
Dark window frames are currently very popular and they certainly look luxurious, but customers fear the color may eventually fade. Pietų Megrame offers colored windows, manufactured of unique colored GEALAN-acrylcolor® profiles. Their color is obtained during a thermal process, when the base of the profile is homogeneously fused with melted colored acrylic. This means that the plastic is not simply painted – the color is obtained by casting colored acrylic on the profile. Compared to the usual painted profiles, these door and window frames show more resistance, durability and maintain their novel appearance for years without peeling off, flaking or fading.
The 0.5 mm surface layer of the colored GEALAN-acrylcolor® PVC window frames are more durable and show better resistance to heat or changing weather conditions – the color stays unchanged for many years even under constant direct sunlight. Acrylic surface is very smooth, preventing accumulation of dust and other dirt. Window frames coated with colored acrylic are easy to clean, always look like new, their surface doesn’t flake, peel, or scratch, and any transportation, installation or finishing accidents can be easily polished.
This PVC frame coating method has been used for more than 40 years has really proven its exceptional properties in practice. You can enjoy the deep and bright GEALAN-acrylcolor® colors for decades, as they practically don’t fade. The colored windows of Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos, installed more than 20 years ago, make a perfect example.
GEALAN-acrylcolor® resistance is relevant only on the window or exterior side, while the interior side can be white or laminated in any color you like.
Attractive decorative films for doors and windows
We manufacture products with the aesthetics of wooden windows and doors. The wide range of our assortment of decorative films feature all kinds of patterns: painted or natural wood texture, glossy, matte, or currently very fashionable metal imitation.
Matte decorative films create a particularly high-quality and elegant look. Glossy decorative films look modern and are easy to maintain. Classic wood imitation films and their surface texture create an impression of natural wood, combining the positive contemporary PVC product qualities with the looks of wooden doors and windows.
Colored Pietų Megrame door and window frames can be laminated with the same or different films on the inside and outside, coated with particularly resistant colored acrylic on the exterior, and laminated with a film to complement your interior style on the inside.
VENTILATION
Building constructions, including doors and windows, have really good insulating qualities. They help preserve the warmth inside the home, but, on the other hand, prevents air exchange too. With modern people spending more time inside than outside, the air quality inside determines their life quality as well! Thus, ventilation is crucial both at home and at work.
The oxygen we breathe in is turned into carbon dioxide. Breathing also releases water vapour. Other human activities – bathing, washing, cooking, or drying laundry – contribute to humidity level at home as well, not to mention indoor plants, aquariums and pets. Excessive humidity makes an excellent environment for the development of fungi. It also degrades the structure of the building itself. Therefore, in order to live a healthy and comfortable life, you must not only heat, but also ventilate the house well. Ventilation helps you evade window fogging and mould on your walls, making air in your home healthy and refreshing.
One of the options of ensuring good ventilation is installing ventilation. Pietų Megrame experts will advise which of the ventilation suits the needs of your home or office best.
GECCO (GEalan Clima COntrol)
Automatic GECCO (GEalan Clima Control) installed in the windows enables air circulation, when the windows are closed. The structure contains a light metal valve rotating freely around its axis. The air enters the premises through small holes cut for this purpose in the window frame and sash gaskets. The position of the valve depends on the strength of the wind. Stronger airflow closes the valve, preventing the air from getting inside with the draft. The valve opens enabling ventilation when the wind calms down. GECCO ventilation can be equipped with pollen and dust filters and a protective bug mesh, also sound insulation and rain protection profiles.
Multi AIR 19 EPC Design
Multi AIR vent suits all types of hinged and fixed windows glazed with 40- and 44-mm glazing units. It is installed horizontally at the top of the glazing unit. The vent is made of aluminium profiles with a thermal bridge. Aluminium profiles can be coated in various colors.
The air flow is adjusted by a rotating cylinder with four sealing brushes, which can be removed for cleaning, if needed. It is characterized by extremely high air permeability. The air flow in case of strong wind is adjusted by a valve. When the pressure difference to the valve is small, the air from the outside will flow inside freely, while in windy weather, the pressure compensation valve closes the vent.
Air vent Renson TC 60
A horizontal compact vent with thermal insulation, installed in the window above 24- and 28-mm thick glazing units. It reduces the glazing unit by only 60 mm. When the vent is opened, the deflector inside directs the air flow upwards thus protecting the room from drafts. Made of high-quality aluminium with a rubber sealing gasket inside, it ensures optimal thermal insulation. Perforated inner profile protects against insects. The vent is easy to clean and maintain. It can be opened using a handle, a string, or a stick.
RENSON TC 60 ventilation come in various colors. The colors on the outside and on the inside may be different. The standard colors are white and brown, but other options are available too. You can choose from any shade of anodized aluminium or any color from the RAL color palette. Vent tips come in white or black.
